Tigers advances in GMC Tournament
The South Plainfield High School boy’s soccer team scored twice during the first 10 minutes of the second half Monday to record a 2-0 win over Old Bridge and advance to the quarterfinals of the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament.
In the first minute after the break, sophomore Sam Tejada lofted a free kick toward the net, and senior
defender James Seyffart crashed the net and headed the ball in.
Six minutes later, Tejada scored on a fake pass by burying the ball into the far corner off of a pass from senior Bryant Villamarin.Old Bridge turned up the offensive pressure after the second goal, but keeper Stephen Coppi knocked away two dangerous shots from the net to keep Old Bridge scoreless. Coppi made four saves in the shutout.
South Plainfield moves on to play North Brunswick on Thursday.
